The Infamous BLOGS!!!
It is amazing what people can do nowadays. Here I am sitting in Baghdad Iraq, and I have the ability to put my thoughts down on a medium that anyone can view at any time. I also see this as a bad thing too. You see, many soldiers have used this forum to say what they think or what they see. As embarrassing as it is, soldiers from my own company have done so. They have put their opinions down, and have blown reality completely out of proportion on incidents that have happened over here. So what is a Non-commissioned Officer to do in such a situation? Can I order the cessation of their right to freedom of the press? I don't believe that ordering people to not post Blogs is legal, however necessary it may seem. Also, some of the soldiers who post these ridiculous Blogs are fellow Non-commissioned Officers! How can I order someone to avoid the very thing that other leaders are doing? Therefore I am left with only one option; If I can't beat them, I will simply have to join them. The following posts on my site will simply be the truth, and on occasion, be my opinion. When it is my opinion, I will state it as such. I will do my best to stay in my lane and not that of my superiors. This is the only option I have to give the public as many sides to some of the stories that are frankly getting way out of hand. We are not involved in some crazy, haneous, bloody battle over here. Yes, people are dying, and yes, many get hurt, but it's not every second of every day. Things are as they are and that is all they are. When it does not risk the safety of others, I will post what happens. I will of course use fake names, and I won't give too much detail, but you will get the general idea. I will not blow things up for the sake of drama, it is the very drama that has driven me to write. I am sick of this war turning into the peoples "reality show", I will simply state the truth, and how it has affected me and those around me as best I can. Hopefully this will shed some light into what really happens over here and the people can judge for themselves who is over dramatic and who is truthful. That is all.
